The Grand Panorama of London from the Thames presents an eighteen foot long continuous view of the river eastwards from the Houses of Parliament to the Isle of Dogs and westwards back to Deptford. Originally published in 1849, this beautifully reproduced panoramic print takes you on scenic journey up the river Thames as it looked during the 19th century, depicting on the way London’s great buildings, bridges, docks and wharfs. Of particular interest are the wonderfully illustrated array of vessels that once navigated the river, bringing to life the vibrancy and importance of London’s involvement in maritime trade at this time. Includes a fascinating introduction by Ralph Hyde, keeper of prints and maps at Guildhall Library.
