Hill-shading with spot heights very effectively portrays the region's topography, with graphics showing lava fields, mangroves, sandy areas and salt lakes. Oasis, water holes and hot springs are marked; in the coastal waters coral reefs are also shown. National parks, game reserves and other protected areas are prominently marked.

Road classification includes minor roads and selected tracks or caravan routes, gives intermediate driving distances not only on main roads but also on many tracks and shows locations of petrol supplies. Railways line are included and local airports are marked. Along the red sea and the Gulf of Aden shipping routes are indicated. The map also shows internal administrative boundaries with names of the provinces.

Symbols highlight various places of interest of interest including campsites, scenic spots, historical remains, etc. Latitude and longitude lines are drawn at 2° intervals. Map legend includes English.
