Crete Touring and Hiking Atlas at 1:50,000 from Anavasi, in a 223-page hardback format, with contoured GPS compatible topographic base, map enlargements for 20 best hiking areas, bilingual text illustrated with colour photos, etc.

Topography of the island is clearly presented by contours at 100m intervals, enhanced by altitude colouring, relief shading and spot heights. Names of towns, villages, mountain ranges, rivers, etc, are given in both Greek and Latin alphabets; names of isolated churches and some smaller archaeological sites are shown mostly in Greek alphabet only.

Road network indicates minor dirt roads in poor condition and 4WD tracks, with driving distances shown on main routes. A wide range of symbols mark numerous places interest: archaeological sites and old fortifications, museums, churches and monasteries, windmills, hot springs, caves, beaches, etc. Selected hotels or inns, campsites, and mountain refuges are also marked.

For walkers the atlas highlights the course of the E4 long-distance hiking trail and shows many local paths. The atlas has a 1km UTM grid, plus latitude and longitude crosshairs at intervals of 1’. The index of place names is in both scripts and includes separate lists of archaeological sites and religious monuments.

20 of the island’s best hiking areas are shown in greater detail on map enlargements with descriptions and colour photos. A 60-page introductory section, also illustrated with numerous colour photos, includes maps on subjects such as protected areas, mountain gorges, population density and employments, etc. Also provided are distance and travelling time tables.

All the text is bilingual in Greek and English. Map legend also includes German and French.
