Road map highlighting the Maya ruins of southern Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador and western Honduras, with detailed plans of the major archaeological sites. Coverage of Mexico extends westward to just beyond Villahermosa and Tuxtla Gutierrez, and in the east the map extends to San Pedro Sula in Honduras and San Miguel in El Salvador.

The area’s road network includes rural unpaved roads and is shown with intermediate distances on main and secondary roads. Pan-American Highway is clearly indicated. Border crossings and locations of petrol stations are also marked. However in places, particularly within Guatemala, the large number of place names and icons indicating various sights make roads other than major highways difficult and at times impossible to see.

Interesting towns and villages are prominently highlighted and symbols indicate various archaeological sites and other places of interest. Detailed site plans are provided for Chichén Itzá, Palenque, Tulum, Copán, and Tikal. Also prominently marked are beaches, spas, and tourist resorts, with an enlargement for the Cancún area.

The region’s topography is shown by elevation colouring and peak heights, with swamps, seasonal rivers and lakes. National parks and nature reserves are clearly marked. Latitude and longitude lines are drawn at 1° intervals. The index is in a separate booklet.

The whole of the reverse side is covered by bi-lingual Spanish and English descriptions of the sites, illustrated with colour photos.
