South Central Alaska and Canada’s Yukon Cruise Tour Guide is presented as a set of two concertina maps nesting inside one cover and combines several maps with extensive text on the region’s history, ancient traditions, wildlife, main ports and towns, etc.
An overview map of the whole of Alaska and Yukon at 1:11,500,000 approx. shows the region’s main towns and roads on a base with relief shading and names of main mountain ranges, surrounding bays and fjords, etc. Enlargements present various most visited areas in greater detail indicating, as appropriate, local airports, the Alaska Railroad, the trans-Alaska pipeline, places of interest and cruise ship and ferry routes:
- the southern coast of Alaska from the top of the panhandle to the Alaska Peninsula, including Kodiak Island at 1:1,000,000
- the interior from Anchorage to beyond Fairbanks and east to Whitehorse in Yukon at 1:2,650,000 approx.
- Denali National Park at 1:1,100,000 approx. with an enlargement for the entrance area showing road, rail and air access with accommodation facilities and nearby trails.
-
- the northern part of the state beyond Fairbanks at 1:7,150,000 approx.
Surrounding the maps are several pages of text, on the area’s history, native people and their traditions, national parks, etc., illustrated with drawings of fauna or flora and colour photos.
