The South Shetland Islands 1:200,000 map from British Atlantic Survey is an interesting and visually impressive topographic and bathymetric overview map of the South Shetland Isles, based on satellite imagery. This double-sided sheet is split into three smaller maps - Livingston Island (including Smith, Low & Deception Islands) on one side, around Elephant Island and around King George Island on the other.

The survey data used for this map is derived from satellite data, and is not verified for navigational use. It is, however, a beautiful and informative overview of these remote islands. The map uses satellite imagery as its base, making it a visually stunning map.

The map shows offshore rocks, peaks, many feature names, glaciers and lakes. It also marks scientific stations, with nationalities, indicating whether they are permanent or seasonal. Antarctic Special Protected Areas (APSAs) and Historic Sites and Monuments (HSMs) are marked on the map, and listed to the side, with their Antarctic Treaty numbers.

Land above sea is shown with LANDSAT satellite imagery as its base. The sea is shown with blue shading indicating bathymetric depth bands. Ice-covered and ice-free coastlines are differentiated. Topography is indicated by contour lines (250m intervals, index contours every 1000m) approximated from satellite data. Spot heights are also given - some surveyed, some approximated. Topographic relief shading is implicit in the satellite imagery (cases where cloud cover could be confused for topology are marked)

Projection: Lambert Conformal Conic
Map Grid: 30’ intervals East-West, 15’ intervals North-South.
Scales are shown in Kilometres, Statute Miles and Nautical Miles.
