Swiss Navigator from Hallwag, an impressive, 692-page volume in an A4, paperback format with over 2800 street plans, from cities to selected villages, each individually indexed for street names, plus the whole country shown at 1:100,000.

The atlas section at 1:100,000 shows the whole country on over 100 pages and indicates places for which street plans are provided and their respective locations in the following street plans section. Mapping is this part uses cartographic style found is car navigation systems, with detailed layout of the road network and colouring for woods and parks, build-up or industrial areas, etc. Railways are shown with stations. Cable car lines, funiculars, chair lifts, as well as ferry services on the lakes are also shown.

The maps have no topographic information beyond rivers and lakes, plus an occasional symbol for a peak (e.g. the area between Arolla and Zermatt is completely blank). A range of symbols indicate hotels and restaurants, shopping centres, parking and park+ride facilities, museums, various places of interest, etc. The maps have a 5km grid showing the Swiss Coordinate system.

The street plan section covers over 2800 locations indicated on the road maps. As in the previous section, colours help distinguish parks, urban areas, industrial zones, etc, and symbols mark various facilities listed above. Scales vary between 1:17,500 and 1:20,000, with enlargements at 1:8,000 for central areas of major cities. A 1km Swiss Coordinate System grid is printed over each plan.

All the text, including the map legend, is in French, German and Italian only.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE:

The Navigator is designed for local reference or commercial use where detailed presentation of towns and villages is required and is not ideally suited for use as touring road atlas for holidays in Switzerland.
