The opening 37 pages provide a general introduction to the area, its history, geography, fauna and flora, as well as advice for planning a trip such a varied and demanding terrain and tips for land and water-based activities.

The next four chapters cover the main areas of the peninsula: Cairns to Cooktown, Peninsula Developmental Road, Telegraph Track and Bypass Roads, Northern Peninsula and Torres Straights, and the Gulf Savannah (including a section of the Savannah Way). The descriptions are illustrated numerous photos and maps at varying scales, overprinted with symbols highlighting different facilities, including accommodation, food and fuel suppliers, car repairs, etc. Where necessary, GPS waypoints are also provided. Each chapter also includes lists of contact addresses for accommodation, recreational facilities, etc.

The last section combines all the mapping to provide coverage of the whole peninsula at 1:1,000,000, with its northernmost tip and surrounding islands at more detailed scales. As in the preceding chapters, the maps are overprinted with symbols indicating various facilities and places of interest, and annotated with brief notes. National and regional parks, aboriginal lands and restricted areas are clearly marked, including the marine parks of the Great Barrier Reef. GPS waypoints are provided where necessary and the maps have a UTM grid and margin ticks at intervals of 1’. The index lists both place names and various topics, plus provides GPS waypoints for over 100 locations.
