Baltic Sea region at 1:1,300,000 on an indexed, waterproof and tear-resistant road map with town centre street plans of main cities, published by Reise Know-How as part of their highly acclaimed World Mapping Project.
The map covers the Baltic Sea region from Hamburg/western Jutland/Skagerrak Straights/Oslo in the west to Vilnius and Hrodna/Grodno in the south-east and St Petersburg in the north-east. Northern Poland is covered south to Olsztyn and in the north only the southern part of the Gulf of Bothnia is included (up to Porl in Finland).
On the Baltic Sea itself the map indicates numerous ferry connections as well the course of the Nord Stream gas pipeline liking Russia and Germany. Also marked are existing and proposed offshore wind farm, numerous lighthouses and locations of main shipwrecks.
On land the map shows the area’s road network, clearly distinguishing different types of roads from motorways to local roads, with driving distances shown on main routes. Symbols prominently highlight various places of interest, including UNESCO World Heritage sites, campsites, etc. Latitude and longitude lines are drawn at intervals of 1°. The map has no index. Map legend includes English.
On the reverse are large street plans of city centres in Copenhagen, Gdansk, Riga, Tallinn, St Petersburg, Helsinki and Stockholm. The plans indicate main traffic arteries and car parks, and highlight various sights and establishments
”World Mapping Project” is an extensive series of maps at varying scales, aiming to provide coverage of countries and regions worldwide using clear, well presented cartography with both topographic and tourist information.
Sample of cartography:
Some elements of the cartography e.g. minor roads and contours are printed relatively faintly compared with other information such as major roads. Although clearly legible on the map, the lower contrast of these details has made them less obvious on the reproduction of the cartography presented here.
