Large, double-sided map providing excellent coverage of not just the Italian Lakes but a wide stretch of the French and Swiss Alps, with the Dolomites and north-eastern Italy. Enlargements cover Lakes Como and Garda, and several street plans are also included.

Coverage extends west to Grenoble and the French Jura; north to Bern, the southern valleys of the Austrian Alps and western Carinthia; east to Trieste, with the whole of Istria included as an inset; and south to the outskirts of Turin and Mantua. Two large insets show in greater detail the areas around Lake Como and Lake Garda.

The map provides a very good overview of the region’s topography, with relief shading enhanced by plenty of peak names and heights, plus names of various mountain ranges and valleys. National parks and other protected areas are highlighted. Road network is very clearly presented, with driving distances shown on main routes. Motorway service areas are marked, as well are roads closed to motorized traffic or nor recommended for caravans. Railway lines show high speed routes. Picturesque towns are highlighted and symbols indicate various other places of interest. The map has no geographical coordinates.

Also provided are large insets showing in greater detail road access to Milan and Venice, plus street plans of central Milan, Verona, Trieste, Venice, Bolzano and Merano. A booklet attached to the map cover includes a separate index for each side of the map, for the enlargements of the two lakes, and for the street plans.

A special feature of the Insight Travel Map series is additional information provided in the margins of both the main map and all the enlargements and street plans. Numbers of roads leading to the edge of the map are prominently displayed there, together with distances to the nearest towns and/or major locations along the route, plus, where appropriate, to nearest motorway junction.
