Indexed, waterproof and tear-resistant road map Japan with topographic and tourist information, published by Reise Know-How as part of their highly acclaimed World Mapping Project. The map is double-sided to provide the best balance between a good scale and a convenient size sheet.

Road and rail networks are easy to see on a clear base which shows the country’s topography by altitude colouring with contours, spot heights, mountain passes, and names of mountain ranges. Surrounding seas have bathymetric contours. The southern islands of Okinawa and Kagoshima are on an inset. Internal administrative boundaries are shown with names of the provinces. Names of the islands and main towns are in both scripts, with names of smaller towns and villages, provinces and geographical features given in the Roman alphabet only.

Road network includes selected minor local roads and shows intermediate driving distances on motorways and main roads. Railways indicate the high speed Shinkansen line. Ferry connections are also shown. National parks and protected areas, including maritime parks are marked. Symbols highlight various places of interest: picturesque towns and villages, UNESCO world heritage sites, temples and shrines, special gardens, caves and hot springs, winter sport areas, etc. The map has a latitude/longitude grid at intervals of 1º and an index of localities. Map legend includes English.

”World Mapping Project” is an extensive series of maps at varying scales, aiming to provide coverage of countries and regions worldwide using clear, well presented cartography with both topographic and tourist information. Some titles in this series have been published in Britain by Rough Guides with the same original cartography and are listed on our website only under that imprint. However, if required, the original Reise Know-How editions can be ordered on request - please contact us by e-mail.

Sample of cartography:
Some elements of the cartography e.g. minor roads and contours are printed relatively faintly compared with other information such as major roads. Although clearly legible on the map, the lower contrast of these details has made them less obvious on the reproduction of the cartography presented here.
