Istanbul with its outer districts on a large, indexed street plan at 1:10,000 from Freytag and Berndt with an enlargement of the city’s famous bazaar. The plan provides wider coverage of the city’s northern districts and Üsküdar on the Asian side than found on most other maps.
Coverage west of the Golden Horn extends north beyond Eyüp and its famous mosque to the G. Osmanpasa district, and west just beyond the interchange between the Ring Road and the 03 motorway. East of the Golden Horn the plan covers the districts within the Ring Road, extending north-east beyond it and the Bosphorus Bridge. The plan also includes the Üsküdar district on the Asian side of the city, again extending just beyond the motorway ring.
To make the plan clearer, nearly 500 smaller streets and passages are simply annotated with numbers and their names are provided on lists printed over the sea parts of the map. Metro stations are prominently marked but, disappointingly, the tram line joining the old historic part of the city with Beyoglu is not shown. Also marked are ferry routes in all parts of the city.
Public buildings, including the Istanbul’s famous sights, are highlighted and named, and symbols indicate numerous mosques and other places of worship, various facilities including car parks, etc. Multilingual map legend includes English. Extensive street index is on the reverse of the map.
Also provided is a detailed enlargement of the Grand Bazaar.
