Map No. 2408O, Albert, in IGN’s excellent, detailed topographic survey of France at 1:25,000. The front lines of the Battle of the Somme in World War I crossed the north-eastern corner of this map, which includes the southern part of the Aveluy Wood, the village of Aveluy, the Haie (Authuille) Wood, la Boisselle and Bécourt.

Although not specifically designed to show WWI memorial sites and best used in conjunctions with one of the specialist maps of the Western Front or the Battle of the Somme, maps in the IGN 1:25,000 series are ideal for locating access to the numerous small British war cemeteries and memorials scattered across this area.

The map is contoured, GPS compatible and shows all the features expected of topographic mapping at this scale. Map legend is in French only. To see the full description of IGN’s 1:25,000 topographic survey of France and the list of all the titles in this series please click on the series link.

Please note: the main section of the Battle of the Somme front line north of Albert, from Aveluy Wood northwards is covered by map No. 2407O (Thiepval, Beaumont-Hamel, Gommecourt, etc); coverage east of this map is on sheet 2408E (Fricourt, Mametz, Maricourt, Longueval, Delville Wood, Comples).
