This system has a notation comprising letter and number combinations for 100x100km tiles (eg SU, TQ etc), 10x10km tiles (eg SU26, TQ69 etc) and 1x1km tiles (eg SU2965, TQ6496 etc). More detail on the British National Grid coordinate system and notation can be found on the Ordnance Survey website at: www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk.The British National Grid is a two dimensional (x,y) reference system only. The vertical datum (mean sea level) used is the Ordnance Survey Newlyn Datum.
