      Ordnance Survey Licensing

      On October 1st 2010 Ordnance Survey announced major changes to their Pricing and Licensing models; all of the changes represent good news for our customers. This page deals specifically with the licensing changes - for pricing please view the New OS Pricing page:

      Essentially there are now 2 rather than 3 licences with the new single data licence in effect combining and replacing the old IBU and PDB licences:

      • Paper Map Copying Licence (PMCL) - to make copies of paper maps.
      • Single Data Licence - covers all OS data purchases.

       

      Ordnance Survey Paper maps:

      If you purchase OS paper maps from us you do not require any additional licence to use unless you plan to make additional copies in which case you will need a) an OS PMCL which you can buy from us or b) to find a printer that already has one. If you are a homeowner simply ordering our 6 copies A4/A3 products map you do not need to worry about OS Licensing as 6 copies will almost always be enough.

      Ordnance Survey Raster data

      If you purchase raster data from us (TIFF/GeoTIFF) this will now be supplied under the single OS data licence. This allows you to use the data for 12 months after which the data must be destroyed. It also permits you to print unlimited hard copies of the data for the 12 month license period.

      Ordnance Survey Vector data

      If you purchase Ordnance Survey vector data from us (dxf/dwg/shp) this will now be supplied under the single OS data licence. This allows you to use the data for the duration of the licence purchased at the point of order (1, 2 or 3 years in the case of Ordnance Survey MasterMap and ITN; 1 year in the case of all other vector products). It also permits you to print unlimited hard copies of the data for the period of the purchased licence. Customers will still be able to archive a copy of the OS MasterMap data and share with up to 40 contractors as per the old PDB licence.
