Background.
On 1st October 2010 Ordnance Survey announced major changes to their Pricing & Licensing Agreements with their Partners. As a Premier Partner (highest level possible) Stanfords are keen to ensure that all customers not only receive the maximum benefits of these changes, which are significant, but that they also have a good understanding of the timetables involved:
The announcement on October 1st relates to Phase 1 of the process and deals with pricing and licensing for data sales (GML/ dxf/ dwg e.t.c) as opposed to plots and image files (pdf/ tiff/ doc e.t.c) which will be covered separately in Phase 2 early in 2011. Possible changes to the OS view charge structure for the large-scale dataset OS Mastermap will also be looked at in Phase 2.
Go Live:
We are pleased to announce that we have successfully ingested and uploaded the new OS Pricing and Licensing models and the new prices are now live in both Stanfords Portal and through our Service Centre in Manchester. As before, prices through the Service Centre remain a little higher than through Stanfords Portal to reflect the fact that our team are processing the order but, that aside, both sets of prices are now very significantly less than under the previous model - in some cases 70% less.
Unfortunately, because the old Desktop Mapping (DTM) Service sits outside of Ordnance Survey's Licensed Partner agreements, we are not allowed to offer the new pricing through this service. We would therefore wholeheartedly recommend that those existing DTM customers who regularly take larger than standard areas of dxf/ dwg data convert to Stanfords Portal at the earliest opportunity. Our Service Centre team will help with this migration - simply call them on 0845 880 3730 and they will take care of everything.
New products:
The new Licensing will enable Stanfords to offer Ordnance Survey's Integrated Transport Network Layer (ITN), the new mid-scale dataset VectorMap Local, Code-Point and, in due course the points of interest dataset Point X. We expect all of these to be available before the end of the year. For this latest release we have included the following:
- BaSEMAP (OS MasterMap data and height data combined in a single file)
- JBA Flood data
- OS Address Layer 2 (AL2)
OS VectorMap Local and a brand mid-scale product "more map" will be available in the next 2 weeks.
Headline Licensing news
We are also pleased to announce that the new licence terms are now available. All customers who used to buy data either under the IBU or PDB Licence will now receive the data under one single licence. As planned the very popular archiving and sharing elements of the PDB Licence have been incorporated into this new version and data can be purchased for up to 3 years for the first time ever. Again, those customers who registered for Desktop Mapping simply to take advantage of the PDB Licence should now migrate to Stanfords Portal as this data will cost you more in DTM whatever the size of the coverage.
