Cape Winelands on double-sided map from Slingsby Maps with an excellent presentation of the region’s topography by contours and altitude colouring, with GPS waypoints for numerous road junctions and extensive tourist information.
On one side is a road map of the whole region at 1:250,000. Detailed road classification is supplemented by numerous GPS waypoints for important road junctions and the publishers’ markers showing particularly interesting or boring routes. On the reverse side the southern part of the region (the Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Helderberg wine districts, including the southern Paarl estates) is presented in much greater detail at 1:100,000.
Both sides provide an excellent picture of the region’s topography, with contours (at 20m intervals on the 1:100,000 map) supplemented by altitude colouring and plenty of spot heights, names of peaks and mountain ranges, etc. In addition to GPS waypoints, both sides have a latitude and longitude grid at 1’ intervals.
Overall, more than 500 wine estates are highlighted and named, with a wide range of other symbols indicating tourist accommodation, farm stalls, petrol stations, recreational facilities, scenic views, historical sites, etc. Also provided is a list of website addresses for local tourist information centres. The map was researched and drawn by Peter Slingsby - renowned environmental educator and cartographer.
