Reggio Emilia and its province is the Touring Club Italiano, Italy’s leading travel publisher, guide to exploring the history, culture, food and wine, walking opportunities, local markets and festivals in the towns of the plain, River Po and Apennine strongholds. The guide has been designed for independent travellers with in-depth information and advice about how to make the most of a visit. A detailed introduction explores the history, culture and attractions of the area including information about landscape and environment, urban development and advice for first-time visitors to the area. Colour photographs are included throughout the guide, illustrating some of the region’s historic sites and landmarks.
The guide is structured in three main sections - an Introduction, Itineraries and Information for Travellers and Index - providing a comprehensive exploration of the region. The Itineraries section is divided into four main sections - Reggio Emilia, The upper plain and the band of hills and The Apennines. Each section has area profiles, colour maps showing town and building plans, detailed descriptions of the history and heritage of the area, suggested day-trips and details of the main attractions in the area. Individual information boxes help provide further insight into the history of the region.
There are also thematic itineraries which explore the waterways and canals of the past, the River Po and its natural environment, local gastronomy, protected areas and natural habitats and the Renaissance courts. A reference section at the back of the book provides an A-Z of practical information including where to stay, where to eat, contact details and opening times, local amenities, curiosities, useful addresses, and an index of places and notable points of interest. An overview map of the region is also included in the inside-front cover.
About this series:
The Touring Club of Italy's Green Guides are English translations of TCI's celebrated guides to Italian regions. These guides are widely considered to be the best regional guides for Italy, and are often the only comprehensive guide available for some of Italy's less well-known regions.
