San Francisco in a series of street plans from Rough Guides published on very light waterproof and tear-resistant plastic paper, indexed, with recommendations for shopping, eating, bars and cafes, and venues. The plan is folded to only 9x19cm when detached from its protective cover, and can be easily rolled or folded into smaller size without any damage or creases.

On one side is a plan at 1:14,500 of the city’s central districts, indicating which areas are also shown in greater detail. On the reverse enlargements cover downtown San Francisco (North Beach, Chinatown, and the Financial and Theatre Districts), and the centres of Castro, Mission North and South, Upper and Lower Haight, Pacific Heights, Marina and Hayes Valley.

The plans show Muni and BART stations and tram or cable car routes, with bus line numbers indicated along the streets. Car parks and one way streets are marked and famous buildings, cultural institutions, etc. are highlighted and named. The plans are also annotated with colour-coded markers indicating publishers’ recommendations for shopping, eating, bars and cafes, and venues.

The map is indexed, including a separate index of sights and hotels, and has a time chart clearly showing opening times of main institutions, plus an explanation of public transport system.

Also provided is an overview map of the city with its outer suburbs showing public transport stations and lines, a small road map of the Bay area from San Jose to the Napa and Sonoma Valleys, and an indexed street plan of Berkeley with further publishers’ recommendations.
