The Shell Channel Pilot has been the standard authority for the South Coast of England and the North Coast of France since the 1930s when Adlard Coles’ original pilot was first published.
Over the years it has been continuously revised and improved, and this latest Imray edition has been rigorously re-worked into defined sections: North Foreland to Selsby Bill; Selsey Bill to Swanage; Swanage to Start Point; Start Point to Bishop Rock; Dunkerque to Cap d’Antifer; Cap d’Antifer to Pte de Barlfeur; Cap de Barleur to Cap Fréhel and the Channel Islands; and Cap Fréhel to ile d’Ouessant. Each is prefaced by passage notes as well as advice on channel-crossing navigation, regulations, health and paperwork on both sides of water. There are also pilotage notes, aerial and approach photos of the habours, as well as the author’s frank and honest remarks about shoreside facilities.
Extracts from relevant Imray charts are included (see our Sample Cartography), showing what facilities can be found there (marinas, mooring and berth facilities, fuel, water, chandlers, etc.). Base cartography uses contours, several levels of colour shading, and spot measurements to indicate depth relative to Lowest Astronomical Tide, including distinct colour highlighting for tidally-covered land. A wide range of symbols indicate onshore features, anchorages, harbour details and other points of note. Danger areas, restricted areas and traffic zones are all shown.
This is the 6th edition.
