Costa Rica and Panama Travel Atlas at 1:300,000 from ITMB in a handy A5, paperback format, indexed and with city maps of both countries’ capitals, plus an enlargement for the environs of San José. The mapping has altitude colouring, with contours above 1000m plus spot heights. Swamps, marshes and salt pans are marked, with national parks and other protected areas highlighted. Also shown are areas designated as Indian reserves.

The maps show both countries’ road and rail networks, including unpaved roads and selected local tracks, with driving distances on main routes and locations of petrol stations. Local airstrips and landing grounds are marked. Symbols highlight selected accommodation, archaeological sites, museums, beaches and surfing sites, hot springs, etc. Also marked are oil pipelines and internal administrative boundaries.

Latitude and longitude are shown as margin ticks at 30’ intervals which means that on some pages either only one or no latitude coordinate is shown.

The map also includes a clear, 2-page street plan of San José with names of both streets and districts, plus an overprint highlighting accommodation, services and places of interest. An enlargement at 1:200,000 covers the environs of the city.
A smaller, less detailed street plan covers the central districts of Panama City.
