Gizi Map coverage of Central Asia at 1:1,750,000 is available either in a geographical version or in a road edition and includes Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, plus southern Kazakhstan and most of Turkmenistan.
Both versions show the area’s rail and road networks, including dirt tracks, and give driving distances on major roads. Local administrative boundaries are marked and names of provinces are shown. All place names are transliterated, with alternative versions provided where necessary, particularly in the border areas.
Detailed topographic information includes names of mountain ranges, deserts and other geographical features, numerous spot heights and peak names, swamps and salt flats, glaciers, etc. National parks are highlighted. Lines of latitude and longitude are drawn at 1° intervals. Map legend includes English. Index of localities is on the reverse of each map.
This geographical edition:
The map has bold altitude colouring to provide an excellent picture of the area’s topography. Current edition of this version was published in 2007.
Alternative road edition:
Altitude colouring has been replaced by relief shading to provide a clearer background for the road and rail networks. Various alternative routes of the Silk Road are highlighted. Current edition of this map has been updated in 2010.
