Topographic Atlas of the Netherlands, with superb cartography from Kadaster, the country’s national survey organization, collected together by the ANWB in one impressive, 289-page, indexed volume. The maps, perhaps the most attractive topographic survey in Europe, are very colourful, with their characteristic patchwork of polders and an unusually large amount of land use information: meadows, arable land, different types of forest, marshes, sand dunes, heaths etc.

Height contours (also bathymetric contours) are shown at 5-metre intervals with numerous spot heights and, with such a large part of the country below the sea level, "spot depths". Various symbols denote a great range of landmark features e.g. power lines, windmills, turbines, various buildings, churches, dikes, bridges, and even signposts and selected trees. The maps have a 1km Dutch national grid coordinates. Map legend is in Dutch and English.

The 274-page map section is preceded by background information on the mapping process, illustrating how various landmarks and man-made features are represented on the maps. Whilst all the text is in Dutch only, the examples provide excellent, easy to understand introduction to the art of cartography.
