Stanfords Customised Cartography
Stanfords have been at the forefront of bespoke cartographic products and services for more than 100 years and our customised division continues this proud tradition.
Primarily the cartographic team focuses on the following areas:
- To support marketing and promotional activities.
- To support events.
- To support internal decision-making.
- To add contextual, geographic value to businesses.
- Leisure products.
- Education.
As well as the above, we are always eager to explore new areas so please do contact us with any other types of requests. We would also welcome any suggestions you might have for new products; these can be sent either via our feedback form or email your suggestions.
Marketing and PR:
Many organisations use mapping to support marketing campaigns. This can be either during the planning stage to mark geographical target territories, or following completion of the campaign to identify success trends.
Also, many campaigns have a location component. We are perfectly happy to supply customised maps that have advertising space contained within the template. This allows our customers to secure advertising revenues from businesses local to the campaign.
Events:
As with the recent Gorillas event in Bristol, in which 62 life-sized Gorilla models were placed around the city, mapping can be used to support events that have either a route element or multiple visitor sites. We can produce these types of maps for anywhere in mainland GB. All we need is the list of locations, relevant symbols to denote location and any additional descriptive information for the index. From the Bristol example , you’ll see that we have included the names of the Gorillas for instance. Other examples include major sporting events: as well as the map showing the site itself these customers like to be able to show connecting transport routes, car parking, or nearby accommodation. As with the marketing maps above, the template can include space for advertising; this space can either be used by the clients to promote their own products or sold to 3rd parties.
Business Management:
In this age of digital maps and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) we still have a number of customers who ask us to produce customised paper maps to put on a wall. These walls can range from an operations room in a taxi company (using concentric circles to denote distance to pick-ups and relevant cost) to boardrooms (denoting regional territories as part of expansion plans).
Contextual maps:
Many premises that invite visitors do so because they sit in an interesting geographical context. An example might be a National Trust building in an area of outstanding natural beauty. As a result we often produce maps that show added value points of interest data in and around the main site itself. Other customers include hotels offering free maps to their guests; typically these maps show places to visit nearby, good places to eat, or interesting walks e.t.c. Often the hotels look to recoup map costs by offering advertising space to local businesses.
Leisure products:
We are currently working with national agencies for leisure activities such as walking and cycling but perhaps you are responsible for running a local walking group and would like customised maps for your specific walks? Or perhaps you regularly cycle a particular route and would like to include specific points of interest information such as places to eat or drink or useful information such as emergency telephone numbers.
Education:
Stanfords have always had a close association with schools and universities whether this is discounts for Gap Year students, affiliations with school libraries or hosting events. The customised division is currently working on a customised maps project to support the Geography GCSE and we would welcome any further initiatives from education professionals.
