- Sectors: Médoc, Graves, etc.
- Names of main appellations within each sector: Pauillac, Margaux, Sauternes, etc, indicating the colour of wine
The background is provided by a map showing the country’s geography with a generalized altitude colouring and rivers, administrative divisions into departments with their names and numbers, plus towns.
Surrounding the map are small photographs of the principal varieties of grapes, each with a brief note in French and name(s) of the region(s) where it is grown.
