The original Garden Route on a detailed map at 1:200,000 showing its mountainous hinterland with contours, plus enlargements for Knysna, Pletenberg Bay and George. The map covers just original Garden Route rather than what is now incorrectly described as the Garden Route, i.e. Swellendam to Port Elizabeth.
On one side are two panels at 1:200,000 covering the route from Mossel Bay to Storms River and extending inland to cover the coastal ranges of Outeniqua Mountains and Tsitsikamma Mountains. Closely packed contours are at 20m intervals, with additional altitude colouring, spot heights and plenty of names of peaks, etc. The road network is finely graded, indicating gravel roads and private roads with no access or requiring permits. Important road junctions are annotated with GPS waypoints and locations of fuel supplies are marked. Railway lines are shown with stations. Main hiking trails are marked and a wide range of symbols indicate various facilities (different types of accommodation, wine cellars, farm stalls, etc) and places of interest, including animal viewing spots and recreational areas. The map has latitude and longitude lines at intervals of 1’ and is not indexed.
On the reverse the area west of Mosell Bay to Heidelberg and Witsan is covered at 1:300,000 with GPS waypoints for numerous road junctions. Enlargements at 1:40,000, annotated with accommodation, etc. cover Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and George.
