In 2006, with her children having flown the nest and retirement age approaching, Megan Knoyle Lewis decides that it’s time to fulfill her lifelong dream. Inspired by the Olympic Games, she determines to travel from China to London on horseback.

After undertaking months of research, in October 2008 she finally sets out on the first leg of this remarkable voyage, tackling the Ming Great Wall of China.

She starts her journey riding beneath the East Gate, the symbolic arched gateway that reads ‘Di Yi Guan Xia Tian’ (‘First Pass Under Heaven’); some 3000km later and she would become the first person on record to ride the Great Wall from end to end.

Megan is the first and only person to have ridden round the world on horseback, covering such iconic routes as the Pony Express Trail in the United States of America and, during her epic trek from Beijing to London, parts of the Silk Road.
