Mount Athos peninsula at 1:50,000 on a contoured and GPS compatible map from Terrain Editions, printed on light, waterproof and tear-resistant synthetic paper, with an enlargement of the Karyes area at 1:10,000, a detailed plan of Karyes, plus extensive tourist information.
Contours are at 100m intervals, enhanced by relief shading. Local roads, tracks and footpaths are annotated with distances; scenic routes are highlighted. Also marked are seasonal coastal ferry connections. An overprint highlights numerous monasteries, churches and other religious sites, as well as mountain refuges, hotels, wineries and other places of interest. The map has a 2km UTM grid, plus latitude margin ticks at 1’ intervals. All place names are in both Greek and Latin alphabet. Map legend includes English.
An inset at 1:10,000 shows the Karyes area indicating locations of numerous religious cells. Accompanying street plan of Karyes shows cells within the town, plus facilities such as shops, cafes, etc.
The reverse side provides bilingual Greek / English information about the area, including the ‘constitution’ of the monastic community, entry permits, and brief descriptions of 20 monasteries.
