The north-western part of South America at 1:4,000,000 from MairDumont with road and rail networks presented on a base with plenty of topographic information, plus an index including natural features such as rivers or mountain chains.

Maps in the MairDumont’s Marco Polo series have a special fold-out flap in the jacket providing an overview of the whole area with the adjoining regions and highlighting popular locations, The flap also has a grid reference system in the margins, making it easier to find places on the main map. A set of seven peel-on/peel-off stickers, removable without damaging the map surface, is provided for making selected locations more prominent when navigating.

The map very effectively presents the topography of the area, with relief shading for the Andes and the highlands of southern Venezuela, spot heights and plenty of names of mountain ranges, plateaux, etc. The river network of the Amazon Basin is presented in great detail with names of numerous tributaries.

Locations of interest are prominently highlighted, with separate colouring for towns or villages and for natural sites such as national parks. Numerous other protected areas and Indian Reservations are also marked. The map shows the region’s road and rail networks, including many smaller local roads, and indicates airports in more remote areas. Latitude and longitude lines are at intervals of 2º. Multilingual map legend includes English.

The index is in a separate booklet attached to the map cover, includes physical features such as rivers or mountains, and has separate lists World Heritage sites and national parks or other protected areas.
