Very large, indexed map presenting the Tibetan Plateau sitting on top of the arch of the Himalayas from the Karakoram to northern Burma. Colouring shows the influence of the monsoon on the terrain and its vegetation, contrasting the more arid plateau and the northern slopes against the forested, greener southern slopes. Across Tibet and in the Himalayas numerous spot heights show altitude of peaks and mountain passes. The region's dense network of rivers and lakes is shown with swamps, salt swamps and lakes, and seasonal rivers. Latitude and longitude lines are drawn at 1º intervals. Projection is Lambert Conformal Conic.

Coverage extends from 37ºN southwards to approx. 25º30’N, to include the northern and central parts of the Ganges and the Brahmaputra. The map provides an overview of the region's road network and shows railways including the Gormo/Kermo/Golmud to Lhasa line under construction. Where possible, main trekking and pilgrimage routes are also marked. An extensive range of symbols highlight numerous places of interest, including monasteries and temples, dzongs, sacred sites, palaces and forts, as well as interesting natural features, etc.

International boundaries indicate disputed zones and internal administrative divisions are also marked. Within Tibet place names of main towns are given in both Roman and Tibetan alphabet and include Chinese versions, all other names are shown only transliterated. Map legend includes English.

On the reverse is an index of localities, plus panels with information and/or advertisements for various international organizations connected with Tibet, its culture and its history, including organization of Tibetans in various central European countries. Most of the text is in German.
