The Somme in a series of Major & Mrs Holt’s Battle Maps from T V Holt Associates covering the main battlefields of the two World Wars. Present day road network is overprinted with extensive information about front lines, monuments, cemeteries, etc.

On one side is a map showing the whole area from Amiens in the south-west to beyond Bapaume, with the front line on 1st July 1916. A small inset at 1:400,000 extends it further south along the Avre to show the 1918 sector around Aubvillers.

On the reverse is the main map: an enlargement at 1:40,000 showing in greater detail the battlefieds between Albert and Bapaume. The map shows British and German front lines on 1st July 1916, the ground taken on that day, as well as the corps and division boundaries between diffent units of the British Army. Also marked is the front line of 17th November 1916.

Extensive overprint gives where necessary 1914-1918 place names, and colour-coded markers are cross-referenced to a separate index for each map. Extensive lists give details of war cemeteries, memorials and monumets, museums, trenches/bunkers/craters, Victoria Cross winners and literary figures or personalities buried or commemorated in the area, etc.
