The 50 walks in this walking guide to the French Central Pyrenees can only offer a representative selection of the wealth of trails available, but they will hopefully make the choice much easier and give hikers the opportunity to discover the scenic richness of the French Central Pyrenees in whatever way they choose.
With each route having an accompanying map at either 1:25,000, 1:50,000 or 1:75,000 scales, there are detailed descriptions of the routes themselves and the guide itself has two overview maps (at 1:650,000 and 1:900,000 scales) that are ideal for planning your visit to such a diverse region.
There are plenty of opportunities for you to become acquainted with and enjoy this region’s fascinating mountain regions on easy paths as well as demanding high mountain trails. There is a broad range of walks in between to suit all abilities and tastes, especially on the GR10 where you will find several of the selected walks in this guide.
About this series:
Rother Walking Guides were first published in 1920- since then Bergverlag Rother have continued to produce these comprehensive guides to “the finest valley and mountain walks”.
Each book has a detailed description of walks, small walking maps and many tips on combining the walks, places of interest, accommodation and public transport; the guides are all in full colour with varying scales and types of cartography - the walks themselves vary from day-long hikes to mountain and valley walks, with varying levels of ease and difficulty indicated.
Small enough to fit in your pocket, comprehensive enough to take you everywhere; the books are printed in paperback but with a polytex-laminated cover, making them extremely durable too.
Raised relief maps of France:
Institute Géographique National, France's national survey organization, is renowned for their excellent series of 3-D plastic maps, covering all but the flattest parts of France, from Brittany, Normandy or the Paris region to a truly spectacular map of the Mont Blanc massif. Popular areas such as the Alps, the Pyrenees or Provence are covered at a variety of scales. These superb maps can be a beautiful decoration, an excellent educational aid or an unusual reminder of an interesting holiday.
Unfortunately, due to frequent damage in transit to our customers, we are unable to offer these maps on our website. Selected titles are kept in stock, and all others can be ordered for collection from our London shop. Please contact us by e-mail for a full list of titles.
