Western Russia on a large, double-sided indexed map from MairDumont, with four street plans, a map of the whole of the ex-Soviet Union and special features to aid route planning and navigation: a fold-out flap in the jacket gives an overview of the whole area covered by the main map plus the adjoining regions and highlights popular locations, with the grid reference system in the margins making it easier to find places on the map itself. A set of seven peel-on/peel-off stickers, removable without damaging the map surface, is provided for making selected locations more prominent when navigating.

On one side the main map at 1:2,000,000 covers most of the European part of Russia, extending north to St. Petersburg and east to Kazan’. Also covered are the Baltic States, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, most of Romania and Bulgaria and the southern coastline of the Black Sea including western Caucasus. Within countries using the Cyrillic script (except in Bulgaria) names of towns and villages are given both in Cyrillic alphabet and transliterated. Names of geographical features (rivers, etc.) are shown only in Latin alphabet.

The map shows the area’s road and rail networks, with locations of special interest prominently highlighted. Within Russia internal administrative divisions and time zones are shown. Latitude and longitude lines are drawn at 2º intervals. The index is in a separate booklet attached to the map cover. Map legend includes English.

Half of the reverse side is taken by a map of the whole of the ex-Soviet Union with relief shading and plenty of names of various geographical features: mountains, plateaux, etc. The map shows both internal administrative divisions within Russia and the borders of the ex-republics and other neighbouring countries. Road and railways are shown, including the Trans-Siberian railway route and its spur to Ulaanbaatar and Beijing.

Also included are street plans of central Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kiev and Minsk, plus and an inset showing the Lake Baikal area at 1:2,000,000.
