Great Britain’s best hiking regions at 1:50,000 in a series of Leisure Maps published by the AA with the cartography from the Ordnance Survey’s Landranger series. Each title is designed to present a popular area with recreational and tourist information.

The maps indicate the traditional public rights of way paths, including bridleways and byways restricted or open to motorized traffic and other routes with public access. Special marking shows National Trails, European long-distance paths, other waymarked long-distance-paths and selected Recreational Routes. For cyclists the maps show on-road and traffic-free routes and the National Cycle Network.

Symbols highlights camping and caravanning sites, youth hostels, information offices and visitors’ centres, parking and picnicking places, World Heritage sites and selected places of tourist interest, nature reserves, viewpoints, etc. The maps also show National Trust/National Trust for Scotland (always open or limited access) and Forestry Commission land.

The maps provide detailed presentation of the topography with contours at 10m intervals, numerous spot heights and colouring and/or graphics for different types of vegetation. All the standard information expected of high quality survey mapping at this scale is included: finely graded road network, railway lines with stations, cuttings or embankments, individual isolated buildings, etc.

For GPS users the British National Grid is drawn at 1km intervals. Each map covers an area of 40 x 40km, (approx. 25 x 25 miles).
