An introductory section provides background information, advice on planning a trip, and suggestion for various activities with chapters on history and geology, habitats, fauna, permits, special precautions, driving and radio contact, aboriginal culture, fishing and boating, etc

The whole area is then divided into four chapters: the Coral Coast, Pilbara, Gascoyne and Mid West, and Goldfields. Descriptions of places of interest and suggestions for local tours are illustrated with numerous colour photos and accompanied by detailed maps. Information includes contact details for recommended accommodation, information centres, etc.

The atlas section at approx. 1:1,250,000 shows the road network indicating sealed and unsealed roads and 4WD tracks, with a wide range of symbols marking different kinds of fuel supplies; accommodation including campsites, caravan parks, and bush camping areas; dump stations; fuel supplies, picnic and rest areas; various places of interest, etc. Colours highlight national parks and other protected areas, Aboriginal lands and prohibited areas. The maps have latitude and longitude ticks at 30’ intervals. Also provided is a more detailed map of the suburbs of Perth and Fremantle, including access to the international airport. The index refers both to the atlas and the relevant guide section.
