The main section of the atlas provides mapping at two different scales: the more densely populated south-western part at a more detailed scale of 1:250,000, with the rest of the state shown at 1:1,000,000.

The maps show roads with, where appropriate, their names and classified into sealed and unsealed surface. 4WD tracks are included and on the 1:1,000,000 maps GPS waypoints are provided for important junctions or locations. At both scales numerous places of interest and facilities are indicated by symbols, including tourist accommodation, campsites and caravan parks, rest areas, fuel supplies, dump stations, wineries, etc.

Topography is shown by spot heights plus names of numerous hill and mountain ranges, rivers and lakes, plus graphics and/or colouring for deserts, swamps, national parks and other protected areas, aboriginal lands and prohibited entry zones. All the maps have latitude and longitude margin ticks and the atlas has an extensive index divided into three sections: road names, place names and geographical features.
