Lottery win for public transport project

Sustrans

A project by the UK’s leading sustainable transport charity that was supported by Stanfords has won the lottery. The Sustrans Connect2 project won the People's £50 Million Lottery Giveaway after public voting, which we highlighted in a Stanfords newsletter in December.

Connect2 aims to transform local travel throughout the country by building new bridges and crossings over roads, railways and rivers, and linking these into networks of paths, enabling people to travel by foot or bicycle for many more journeys.

Connect2 LogoThe project was up against three other organisations, and the founder and chief executive of Sustrans, John Grimshaw, said, ‘This is fantastic news, and thanks to everyone who voted for Sustrans’ Connect2, and for your help in winning funding from the Big Lottery Fund to invest in walking and cycling UK-wide. This really is an amazing achievement for our charity and the many local authority and other partners with whom we will work on Connect2. We simply couldn’t have done it without you and your votes.’

Sustrans LogoWork starts on delivering Connect2 in January 2008. For further details, visit their website: www.sustransconnect2.org.uk.
