It was in Brazil. My friend Lukasz and I were floating down the Amazon River. We were going to spend Christmas with our Brazilian friend in Sao Paulo. But we were stuck for five days in Manaus, and I realized that we wouldn’t be on time. When we got out from the Amazon there was only one day left until Christmas. On that day we arrived at Corumba, a small town by the Bolivian border.
Exhausted after the long journey we desperately urged for rest but the subtropical climate didn’t let us do so. To relieve the pain we went bathing in the Paraguay River. I had left my mobile on the bank and just five minutes later someone ran over it while parking a car. Well, I decided to send my Christmas wishes anyway and used the Internet instead.
Far away from family and friends, with strangers and strange weather around as we were used to seeing some snow, we celebrated our Silent Night. A bottle of cachaca gave us a nice sleep and Christmas Day was soon over.
