Wish we were

…in our Map Room celebrating National Map Reading Week.

Sometimes there really is no place like home. Our map room on the 1st floor of our Long Acre store holds stock of historic maps, maps from our Edward Stanford Cartographic Collection archive, illustrated map prints, wall posters and lots more.

There are large tables so you can have a proper look at folded maps from all over the store and if you need something specific, our in-house cartography experts can work up a custom map just for you.

This canvas printed 2A0 size world map is based on the Miller Cylindrical projection and is at 1:20,000,000 scale. Printed in our Map Room.

This is a much-used tool of our trade. Can you guess what it is?

Wow. How did you know? Yes, it’s a map folding stick.

Originally they were made out of ivory (ours is plastic). We only have one, so if you hear a member of staff shouting “WHO HAS THE MAP FOLDING STICK?” you know what it looks like now so you can help them look for it.
