Join high-profile figures from the field of polar exploration for a fascinating insight into this world – Doug Allen, a cameraman currently filming in Antarctica, will give you an exclusive sneak preview of his forthcoming footage filmed for BBC TV, whilst leading expedition photographer Martin Hartley will show you photos he will have taken just days previously in the North Pole; Dr Huw Lewis-Jones, from the Scott Polar Research Institute, will discuss how he brought the stunning images together for the new book, Face to Face: Polar Portraits.

Bafta- and Emmy-winning BBC cameraman and photographer Doug Allan, the man behind BBC series Blue Planet and Planet Earth, has been passionate about the Poles for more than 30 years. Fresh from filming in Antarctica, he will talk to us about what it takes to travel to the poles, discuss the history and characters behind polar exploration and describe his own experiences of working in this extraordinary, harsh environment. He will also outline the threat of global warming to the modern polar world.
Huw Lewis-Jones is a historian and curator of art at the Scott Polar Research Institute. He is also responsible for collecting the portraits and photographs gathered together for the first time in Face to Face: Polar Portraits, an impressive, important collection that provides a visual record of British and international polar exploration and offers a fresh, personal look at the changing face of exploration at the ends of the world.
Take advantage of this unique opportunity to also see an exhibition of rare historic images from the Scott Polar Research Institute collections and cutting-edge modern images by leading exhibition photographer Martin Hartley, all of which are featured in Face to Face: Polar Portraits.
