Maps of France - Features on France
France is a diverse country and as such remains a popular travel destination for tourists around the world. From the UK alone, 6.9 million Brits visited France last year with the Channel Tunnel carrying no less than 11% of all of the UK holiday traffic going abroad!
Of course, these trips also vary from the one-day dash across the Channel to the hypermarche to the family camping holiday in French campsites, from skiing in the Alps to climbing in the Pyrénées, from a weekend in a Paris hotel to weeks spent touring the Châteux of the Loire. From the first ever hire of a Gîte to the closing of the deal on your dream retreat property in the Dordogne or Provence, from the lazy canal cruise through Burgundy to wine tastings just about anywhere in France, we've got the maps, touring guides and personal stories to fire your imagination.
In this expanding section we not only introduce the mapping agency, Institut Géographic National (IGN), responsible for ensuring all those touring France find their destination, but we also provide you with some personal dispatches of those who love France enough to buy a property in Toulouse and those who just enjoy France as a holiday destination…
Institut Géographic National (IGN)
The Institut Géographic National (IGN) is France's national survey agency. IGN has a long and established tradition in producing topographical mapping of the highest quality for France. From their wonderful detailed topographic mapping series Bleue (Top25) and (Top100) to specific French walking maps or touring maps, maps of French railways, maps of cycling routes in France, maps of French golf courses, maps of France's wine regions and even of French monasteries and abbeys. Read an insider's view of this major French map publisher in this article by Jacob Genelle, who used to work as a cartographer for IGN: Insight into the world of IGN.
We've Been There

We've collected some varied personal perspectives and practical guides on France, from buying a house in Toulouse to touring the French Pyrenees. All of these tales include personal recommendations for maps and guide books of France. See if we've been there.
