Founded by Edward Stanford in 1853, Stanfords' history mirrors that of the country from the height of the empire and age of exploration, through both World Wars to the boom in travel and tourism in the last 30 years.
Our Covent Garden store opened in 1901 and now stocks near 40,000 items, with 250,000 maps and books in stock at any one time. Over 40 staff come from countries around the globe and are backed up by the most experienced team of map and book buyers in the world with a century of experience between them.
