This is not only a map of the island but a historical snapshot of how far the settlement process had got at this time. There are virtually no settlements marked inland, solely along the coast (e.g. Falmouth, St. John's Town). However, the maritime information is surprisingly deep. Undewater rocks, shoals, breakers, islands and depths are all marked in places, but there is little indication of terrain features. There are also three cross-section profiles of the island (from ship deck level) in the margin. Originally published in Holland. Reproduced on heavyweight, parchment effect paper, with a generous border area.
Paper size: 64.4 x 49.6 cm (19 1/2 x 25 1/4 inches)
