Double-sided, GPS compatible topographic map of the Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area lying inland from the eastern end of the Garden Route. The map covers an area approximately 145km E-W by 50km N-S, extending from the Eastern Cape-Western Cape border in the west to the town of Hankey in the east. This map is densely filled with contours at 20m intervals, giving a vivid impression of the relief, although they appear too crowded in steep areas and distract from other detail. Plenty of spot heights are also evident. Roads are differentiated according to the type of surface, indicating 4x4 tracks, private sections, locations of petrol stations, mountain passes, and intermediate road distances on main routes. Railways, stations and selected major hiking trails are also marked. Symbols convey a range of information: accommodation (hotels, lodges, B&B, self catering, hostels, caravan sites, campsites), police stations, farm stalls, restaurants, monuments, museums, picnic sites, information centres, etc. Reserve boundaries are also marked. Latitude and longitude lines are drawn at 1’ intervals. The map was researched and drawn by Peter Slingsby - renowned environmental educator and cartographer.
