Topographic atlas of Belgium at 1:50,000 published jointly by the Nationaal Geografisch Instituut/Institut Géographique National and Lanoo, printed on high quality paper and presented in a 25x33cm harback format.
The maps have contours at intervals varying according to the terrain: from 2.5m in the coastal areas to 10m in the Ardennes. In addition to detailed classification of the road and rail networks and the usual geographical information presented in topographic mapping at this scale, the atlas also provides information on land use. Cartography in this new edition, published in late 2008, has changed slightly from the earlier version of this atlas, with clearer distinctions in land use information, finer contour lines and clearer overall presentation.
Margin ticks show latitude and longitude at intervals of 1' and the Belgian Lambert projection coordinate values at 1km intervals. Map legend is in Dutch, French and German. An extensive index lists full coordinates for all the locations.
The atlas includes an introductory section on mapping the country and notes on various aspects of cartography and map use, with the text in French and Dutch only.
This atlas, with additional extensive tourist information and street plans is also available in a ring-binder format, but using the previous presentation of the country’s topography.
