Slim, large format volume presenting road mapping of the country supplemented by regional and town maps, highway junction diagrams and tourist information. The road mapping in six sections at 1:500,000 is comparatively simple but distinguishes tarred, gravel and 4WD routes, and shows intermediate distances on major roads and places where petrol stations can be found. Main railways and see ferries are marked, provincial boundaries are included and symbols show airports, airfields and ports. Bold altitude tinting shows the general relief, but the print quality combined with shading applied to indicate protected areas makes some of the text unclear. The mapping is accompanied by supporting text describing the regions, a distance chart, GPS coordinate lists of selected locations, highway junction diagrams and simple street plans of many towns, on which useful locations are marked eg. post offices, hospitals, churches and petrol stations. For some of the larger towns the plans are indexed for locations such as banks, health centres and public services. There is a 1:200,000 road map of the region around San Jose, and a more detailed plan of the city centre, both of which are indexed for places of interest.

The introductory pages present general information on various aspects of the country, notes on driving and traffic signs, useful telephone numbers for services, recreation and car rental. There are also a political map of Central America and a general map of the country. The final pages are concerned with the protected areas, showing them all on a general map and describing each park. The map legends and all text are in Spanish and English.
