Renowned walker Paddy Dillon’s Cicerone guide to the high-level GR20- Corsica is an extensive description of one of Europe’s greatest adventure treks and has a reputation for the being the toughest of the GR routes. The GR20 negotiates magnificent mountain terrain as it follows Corsica’s rocky spine along the length of the island. While many of the sections are on conventional walking trails, parts of the trek are on bare rock and involve some quite exposed scrambling. The guide describes the entirety of the route, from Calenzana in the island’s north-west to Conca on its south-east coast.
The guide is organized into 13 ‘stages’ detailing the route in addition to a section on the link route from Refuge d’Usciolu to Zicavo which allows day excursions which link back in to the main GR20 route. An extensive introduction provides important information for trekkers wanting to complete the route, including sections on hot to reach and approach walking the GR20, path conditions, a kit-check, services en route and information on the flowers and wildlife of the island. Detailed route descriptions are accompanied by sketch maps and gradient profiles mapping the route ahead in addition to colour photographs illustrating some of the highlights of the region.
