A title from an extensive series of light, high quality, paperback guides to the Sentiers de Grande Randonnée, the GR routes, a dense network of long-distance footpaths across the French countryside. Each topo-guide covers either a circular route, or part of a longer path. Supporting the route descriptions are colour extracts from IGN's 1:50,000 or 1:25,000 topographic surveys overprinted with the route. The text is in French, but a large amount of information is conveyed by symbols. A list of all the main places along the route indicates what facilities can be found there: public transport, food shops, and various types of accommodation, with addresses and telephone numbers.
In this guide: the first part of the Alpine section of the GR5 in France, a 186-km route from Thonon-les-Bains on Lake Geneva, past the Mont Blanc massif, to Col de la Croix de Bonhomme and les Chapieux. The guide also includes a tour of the Dents du Midi. 80 pages.
- Raised relief map of Mont Blanc:*
Institute Géographique National, French national survey organization, is renowned for their excellent series of 3-D plastic maps, including a spectacular map of the Mont Blanc massif at 1:50,000 of both the horizontal and, unsusually for such maps, the vertical scale. Coverage of the whole of the French Alps is available at a variety of scales. Unfortunately, due to frequent damage in transit to our customers, we are unable to offer these maps on our website. The Mont Blanc map is available as regular stock, and all others can be ordered for collection from our London shop. Please contact us by e-mail for a full list of titles.
