One of the maps in the 1:50,000 topographic survey of Switzerland, which is published in 78 standard sheets (Nos. 205 - 297) and 24 special larger maps centred on popular tourist destinations (Nos. 5001 - 5024). Swiss survey maps are highly regarded for their superb use of graphic relief and hill shading, presenting an almost 3-D picture of Switzerland's mountainous terrain. Both formats have contours at 20-metres intervals and an overprint showing the Swiss national grid coordinates. The standard sheets also include margin ticks showing latitude and longitude in steps of 5'.
Each map covers an area of approximately 35 x 24 km / 21 x 15 miles or on the larger sheets 50 x 35 km / 31 x 22 miles. Standard sheets have a map legend in the language of the area covered by the map. The larger tourist sheets have no legend, but a separate leaflet, in English, can be provided instead.
Most of the standard sheets are also available in special hiking editions with an overprint highlighting local footpaths and bus routes with bus stops. These are listed on our website separately in the “Switzerland: 50K Hiking Editions of the Topographic Survey” series.
NB. Most of the area covered by this title is also shown on a hiking edition map number 5027T (Grand St.Bernard - Combins - Arolla), but without extending west to Mont Blanc and Chamonix.
- Raised relief map of Mont Blanc:*
Institute Géographique National, French national survey organization, is renowned for their excellent series of 3-D plastic maps, including a spectacular map of the Mont Blanc massif at 1:50,000 of both the horizontal and, unsusually for such maps, the vertical scale. Coverage of the whole of the French Alps is available at a variety of scales. Unfortunately, due to frequent damage in transit to our customers, we are unable to offer these maps on our website. The Mont Blanc map is available as regular stock, and all others can be ordered for collection from our London shop. Please contact us by e-mail for a full list of titles
