Encapsulated version of a colourful political map of the world (116.5 x 78cm / 3ft 10" x 2ft 7" approx.) with pale blue oceans pleasantly contrasting with the darker shades used for countries and additional insets showing vegetation and physical geography.
Relief shading used for mountain chains on land masses is very effectively extended to the floor of the oceans, showing continental shelves and numerous ridges, many with names. Within USA, Canada and Australia internal administrative boundaries and names of states/provinces are shown.
The two Polar Regions are presented as insets in the top corners, while at the bottom two colourful maps of the world show vegetation cover and landforms (physical geography). Clocks show time difference from GMT (but without the map indicating the exact geographical area covered by each time zone). The map also provides a list of 10 largest countries by area and by populations.
Elevation for mountain peaks is given in feet. Projection is Winkel Tripel, which reduces distortion of land masses as they near the poles.
- This map is also available enlarged (185 x 122cm / 6ft 1” x 4ft approx.) on paper or encapsulated.
LAMINATED and ENCAPSULATED WALL MAPS:
- laminated wall maps have a thin layer of plastic usually applied to the printed side only. They can be written on with suitable marker pens without any damage to the map but, unless they have been laminated on both sides, they are not damp-proof.
- encapsulated wall maps are sealed between two sheets of plastic. They are more rigid and heavier than laminated maps of the same size. They are damp-proof and do not crinkle in humid conditions. Encapsulation gives the map a shiny surface, similar to being displayed behind glass.
- please note: many publishers and retailers often use these two terms interchangeably. Our map titles and descriptions follow the definitions provided above.
